9: The Beatles release Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band

Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band was released on June 1, 1967. It was the eighth album by The Beatles and was recorded by the Beatles over a four month period beginning on December 6, 1966.
The Allmusic Guide review pretty summarizes the essence of Sgt. Pepper’s:
“It’s possible to argue that there are better Beatles albums, yet no album is as historically important as this. After Sgt. Pepper, there were no rules to follow — rock and pop bands could try anything, for better or worse. Ironically, few tried to achieve the sweeping, all-encompassing embrace of music as the Beatles did here.”

What happened? There was a few minute long blackout followed by music that is distinctive for its un-top-ten-momentousness.

Pink Floyd, Bruce. No way are their albums more memorable or significant than Pepper. Without Pepper their wouldn’t be any of the albums listed above it.
October 19th, 2007 at 11:35 amI had just moved to Austin , TX for the summer.
I remember hearing the album and the next day , jumping on the back of some guy’s motorcycle to go get a couple of cpoies.
We were SO excited!
Got the albums , drove back to the apt. and listened til I had to go to work that night. I kept the album under my mattress.. living with about 3 other people whom I didn’t know too well… I wasn’t going to chance loosing it !
We would just sit around mesmerized by the entire thing.. the music , words everything.
Fabulous to remember that!
