221: Oasis releases debut album Definitely Maybe
When this album was released on August 30, 1994, it kick started the Britpop movement of the 90’s and established the Gallagher brothers (Noel and Liam) as major new stars. Definitely Maybe went straight to number one on the UK Album charts when it was released, and was the fastest-selling debut album of all time in the UK. Definitely Maybe also marked the beginning of Oasis’ success in the US, selling over 1 million copies here, but only reaching #58 on the Billboard charts, despite the hit “Live Forever.” The album went on to sell over 7.5 million copies worldwide.
