415: White Stripes brother-sister or married rumor
One of the most acclaimed bands to emerge from the last decade of rock, Detroit’s White Stripes came to stardom with a fully developed, striking visual style and an equally intriguing interpersonal dynamic. Not only did they astound with their blistering live shows, but they understood that myth-making and media manipulation are often as central to rock’s allure as the music itself. Jack and Meg White toyed with the press and kept mum on whether they were in actuality brother and sister or ex-spouses through their first year in the spotlight. In 2002, the Detroit Free Press dug up their divorce certificate and the jig was up. But their incredible run of acclaimed albums remains unstoppable.

The great thing about this “myth” is that you will never see any of these new, what shall I call them… “emo” bands keep their backgrounds shrouded in legend as such. Hats off to you, Jack and Meg.
