531: U2 releases Achtung Baby
Bono described it as “the sound of four men trying to chop down the Joshua Tree,” signifying a musical change for U2. And it was. Produced by Brian Eno, Daniel Lanois and Steve Lillywhite in Berlin and Dublin, and released on November 19, 1991, U2’s seventh studio album dug into electronica and techno and dense alternative guitar rock. Mostly though, Achtung Baby was about a creative surge in performing and songwriting for the band. The album was a deep collection of U2’s best songs to date . Songs like “One,” “Mysterious Ways,” “Who’s Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses,” “Even Better Than The Real Thing,” were incredible singles from the album and was even deeper with songs like “Trying To Throw Your Arms Around The World,” “Ultraviolet,” and “Zoo Station,” adding significant depth to an already excellent album.
