692: Bruce Springsteen plays the Main Point on February 5, 1975

Philadelphia radio listeners have always had a soft spot for Bruce Springsteen since his earliest days and his shows at the Main Point in Bryn Mawr are the stuff legends are made of. He played their numerous times however one of the most memorable of these performances was on February 5, 1975. Among the songs he played that night included a new song called “Wings For Wheels” (later to be changed to “Thunder Road”), a cover of Bob Dylan’s “I Want You,” and a 20 minute version of “New York City Serenade.” He encored with a cover of “Back In The USA” by Chuck Berry.

Many of WXPN’s listeners wrote in to share their stories of seeing Springsteen play live at the Main Point, a small venue in Bryn Mawr, PA that saw many big acts grace its stage 25-year history. Sadly, the Point closed its doors for good in June of 2005.
