789: “Crazy” becomes hit for Patsy Cline in 1961
Patsy Cline is one of America’s most revered country voices, and had numerous hits during her career, including “Walkin’ After Midnight” and “I Fall to Pieces.” Cline’s masterpiece, however, is “Crazy,” a ballad written by a young Willie Nelson. Many artists have covered the song since, including LeAnn Rimes, but it remains Cline’s signature. “Crazy” instantly became a hit in 1961. Only two years later, at the height of her career, Cline died in a plane crash at the age of 30.
