884: “The Time Has Come Today” becomes a hit for the Chambers Brothers
The Chambers Brothers’ song “The Time Has Come Today” reached #11 on Billboard’s Hot 100 in 1968, catapulting the previously unknown interracial soul group to fame. The 11-minute epic also helped usher in the psychedelic movement, and featured cow bell, reverb, and an Echoplex.

I always loved this song…and was used very effectively in the movie Apocalypse Now….
