850: 16 Magazine hits newsstands
Teenagers have money. They like to spend their money on entertainment. This insight was the driving force behind the creation of 16 Magazine, which first hit newsstands in May of 1957. Elvis Presley graced the cover of the inaugural issue - his style, good looks, and musical talent set the pace for the type of artists who appeared in future issues of the magazine, including the Beatles, Bobby Sherman, Paul Anka, Dion, and Herman’s Hermits.

Everything old is new again . On the cover of the 16 Magazine shown above - which I would guess is from about 1965-66 - there’s a teaser for a story titled “McCallum tells YOU his life story.” Only last night, I was reading in USA Today that all 140 episodes of “The Man from U.N.C.L.E.” are available in a set of 26 DVDs. Which might be fun. But - no need to bring back Bobby Sherman et al on a multi-DVD set of “Here Come the Brides.”
