843: Fugazi form in 1987
“Ethical” and “modest” probably aren’t the first words that come to mind when you think of hardcore bands. But Fugazi, the pioneering DC hardcore band that formed in 1987, looked to change that image. They discouraged moshing at their shows, sometimes stopping the show altogether if a mosh pit formed. They kept ticket prices low, usually at $5 to $10. And they always priced their albums at $10 so that most fans could easily afford to buy them. The band has released seven albums and are the subject of the documentary, “Instrument.”
