Yes/Frampton at JFK - 06/12/76, Ticket Price: $10.00

by Ned McFadden, Sewell, NJ

This concert really stands out in my mind. Frampton was on the verge of super stardom. (”Frampton Comes Alive” was not yet released, but he had gained a deserved reputation for his phenomenal live shows. Frampton would return to JFK the following summer as the headliner.) And Yes was at the absolute peak of their popularity and creativity.

What I remember most about this concert, other than the incredible music, was that beautiful June afternoon turning into a chilly June night. There were 100,000 sunburned kids who all of a sudden, seemingly in unison, decided to find a way to stay warm. Then small fires began appearing throughout the stadium, fueled by discarded wax covered juice boxes that were sold throughout the day. At one point there must have been hundreds of these small fires burning on all levels and on the field. Quite a sight! And there never seemed to be any danger, the music never stopped and I remember Yes giving an amazing performance. Quite a memory!

I remember it well - we came down from East Brunswick,NJ for this one. I still run into people who went to that show. Remember the garbage fight. the firecrackers flying- my sister got fit by one (not hurt though). Remember the announcements about dehydration. Pousette dart band, gary wright, the mummers, Frampton (all the girls had a crush on him)-and Yes (YES!) the lazer show was great and they looked like guys from another lovely peaceful planet with the wind blowing their clothes back- it was dreamlike and futuristic to me. It was a beautiful day and beautiful night.

I recall some of the day. I think it was the first outdoor stadium concert in phila. We had about eight people in our group and only six tickets. I definitely remember two buddy,s climbing the fence and ripping their shirts. I graduated from high school two days before the concert, and planned to go down to the shore for senior week after the show. I can remember buying the orange juice cartons(great for mixing w/ vodka) the sunburn, and the chills in the evening. I didnt make it to the shore until the next day but I remember the show was absolutely the best way to kick off a great summer. JFK was a great stadium for a concert.
