YES/Frampton concert at JFK 1974(?)

by Sharon Rankin, Dresher, PA

This was my first big stadium concert (and I can’t believe my parents let me go — I was only 14 yrs old). This was an all day/night event. Friends and I got to the stadium in the morning and sat through the many acts that day. The mummers were a surprise guest — mixed reaction from the crowd. There was one moment, at around 3 in the afternoon, it started raining orange drink. The stadium sold the little 1/2 pint cartons of orange drink and it was if on cue that everyone should throw theirs down on the crowd below at the same time. My sister and I were in the bottom section but fortunately for us the people behind us had a blanket and we both threw ourselves back into their laps to avoid the drenching. I will always remember that concert and especially that moment.

And in full circle I was able to take my son (14 yrs old) to see Peter Frampton at the Keswick theater last week and was taken back through time to my youth. Peter was fantastic — even mentioned that concert — and my son, Alec (14yr), Robby (13yr), and my daughter (11yr) along with my husband LOVED the show!

The date of the show was June 12, 1976 … I just looked at my ticket stub. What a show that was…the first of its kind…general admission $10.00!

I saw the same show at RFK Stadium in Washington D.C. Gary Wright and his band wore jumpsuits that resembled the ones that employees used to wear at Gas & Go stations. Frampton was at the peak of his Frampton Comes Alive run. Yes’ set ran long (not sure how or why there would be a curfew for a daytime concert) but the plug was pulled during their encore song.
