Helen Leicht’s Most Memorable Moments
by Helen Leicht, XPN Midday Host/Assistant Program Director, Host/Producer of Philly Local
My Most Memorable Musical Moments — many of them took place at WIOQ - Q 102 FM in Philadelphia Pa.
I began working at WIOQ in 1976 (recently celebrated my 30th Anniversary in Philadelphia radio with the Philly Local celebration at the World Cafe live.
This jingle brings back the memories of so many bands stopping by the station to say hello on the radio:
Tom Petty stopping in to say thank you to the staff at WIOQ for playing his first album for one year before anyone else would even listen to it!!
Gentle Giant coming in to perform at the Tower Theatre — it happened to be my birthday so they sang “Happy Birthday to me” on the radio!
Peter Gabriel joining me on the radio and explaining he was naming his albums using his name because “LIFE magazine didn’t change its name with each issue.” He had a good point!!!
And of course meeting Paul McCartney is my most memorable musical moment and I shared that joyful moment on the radio!

I enjoyed you and Harvey in the Morning at WIOQ. I was in a drafting and design course at Salem Community College (’72-74) and we listened in class all the way through your Lunch with the Beetles. I often wonder were Harvey is. I think he was with Nickeloden years back.
September 1st, 2007 at 12:38 amThanks for your many years of bringing music to the tri-state area and helping define Philly radio.
I echo Charlie’s sentiments and memories. WIOQ and its on-air staff, especially you, Harvey and David Dye, were high-water marks of Philly radio in the late 70’s and 80’s. I used to win Harvey’s morning trivia questions fairly regularly, and after a while started sending him trivia questions to use on the air. When I met him in person and introduced myself, he had, “Oh yeah, the trivia guy!” I always enjoyed The Leicht Lunch, too, and you used a few of my suggestions. But the highlight was winning the “Select-a-set” contest in 1987 and getting to guest-DJ the afternoon show with a guy named David Anderson. (remember him?) I was devastated when the station made an abrupt format change shortly after that, and my beloved DJ’s were gone. But everyone seemed to land on their feet, thank goodness. I still miss Harvey on the airwaves, but it’s a joy that you and David are still around. Rock on!

September 2nd, 2007 at 9:36 pmThe jingle is from a quadrifonic album from Roger Mason. I got it from a friend when I heard it and noticed the jingle on it. Can’t think of the name of the song.
