Dylan Goes Electric
by Michael Hogan, Philadelphia, PA
During my sophomore year of high school, ‘64-’65, Bob Dylan was performing at the Academy of Music on a weekday and I was allowed to go. The word was out that Dylan was beginning to play with electric guitar and a band. My friend and I bought the cheap seats high up in the Academy. Dylan came out with guitar and harmonica and performed a great acoustic set. He took a break. When he returned, he had an electric guitar and, who I believe to be, The Band behind him. Many in the audience booed and yelled and walked out because Dylan had gone electric. My friend and I were able to move to the good seats vacated by the walkouts and we heard a performance we have never forgotten.
