Jerry Makes It Rain. The Grateful Dead - June 30, 1995 – Three Rivers Stadium, Pittsburgh, PA

by John Myers, Line Producer, World Cafe on XPN

This was the last time I saw the Dead. I drove to Pittsburgh for the show with a group of friends from Penn State. It was one of those hot & humid days when you wish it would rain so that things would cool off.

We got our wish.

During the Dead’s set break it started to sprinkle. Then, as the band took the stage for the second set and sang out the first lines of The Beatles’ “Rain” a cappella (Raaaaaaaaaaaaaaain….. I don’t mind…. ) the heavens opened up and it absolutely poured giant drops of rain. It was as if the band had scripted the weather. We danced to four rain-themed songs before the band went into “Terrapin Station.” Six weeks later Jerry passed away.

Here’s the complete set from that show:

Set 1:
Hell In A Bucket
West LA Fadeaway
Take Me To The River
Candyman
When I Paint My Masterpiece
Bird Song
Promised Land

Set 2:
Rain
Box Of Rain
Samba In The Rain
Looks Like Rain
Terrapin Station
Rhythm Devils
Space
I Need A Miracle
Standing On The Moon

Encore:
Gloria
