Hendrix for Breakfast
by Byron Mellinger, Wyomissing, Pennsylvania
8:00 Monday morning. August 18, 1969.Town of Bethel, White Lake New York. Max Yasgur’s farm.
We crawl out of our tent near the back of the stage and as the sun is shining brightly down, shining with all its might we hear Chip Monk announce over the sound system “Ladies and gentlemen, Mr. Jimi Hendrix.” Smiles all around.
“Hendrix for breakfast says I , Let’s go.”
A short walk to the front of the stage only to discover that most of the folks had already begun their exodus and we are able to walk right up front. The rest, as they say, is history.
Perhaps you can come up with another important moment, but can there be a better one? Star Spangled Banner as performed by Mr. Jimi Hendrix at the Woodstock Music and Arts Festival if you please.
