I was attending Kutztown (then State College) in late 1973 and missed Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band when he opened for Stevie Wonder at our college Field House. Those who went spoke only of the opening act and when an Allentown AM radio station sponsored a two show appearance again in early 1974, my college friends and I all traveled to Northampton, PA to see for ourselves. The ticket price was $1.00 and we went to the second show that Thursday night, sitting in the third row of the vintage movie theater complete with a stage for live performances. Seeing all of that talent from only several feet away left all of us speechless until we were half way back to our college dorm whereupon we all began to scream that we had just witnessed the emergence of a musical icon and would never ignore the opening acts that appeared at our college again.
