My First Spectrum Show
by Matthew Rovi, Collegeville, PA
My most memorable music moment was my first Spectrum show…Phil Collins, No Jacket Required, Sunday, May 20, 1985. Couple things stand out about that night. First, I was so pumped to finally experience a concert at the Spectrum and all that goes with it, the sights, sounds, smells, way the arena was set up, techs climbing up to work the spotlights, etc. And that was a “big” show as well because Phil was at the height of his popularity as a solo artist. Second, we had floor seats near the sound board. Third, the show started at 10 PM because of a Sixers Playoff game. But the clincher was Chester and Phil on the drums for the opener “I Don’t Care Anymore” and how the crowd just exploded during those first few notes of that song. I knew from that moment on, I was hooked!
