Rock Me on the Water - Jackson Browne

by Musicmavenus, Pennsauken, NJ

Although I can’t remember whether it was 1974 or 1975, the events of that night stand out as one of my concert viewing highlights. Somehow I had managed to get tickets for the Jackson Browne concert at the TLA, an intimate venue with a great view of the stage from any seat. The opening act introduced me to Phoebe Snow, who sang a wonderful rendition of “Poetry Man,” leaving me mellow and excited when Jackson Browne took the stage.

Soon after his arrival, he proceeded to berate the audience….noting that since this night’s performance was an added appearance we must all be the people who “didn’t care enough about me to buy tickets for the first night.” He totally redeemed himself in my eyes, though, pouring his heart into his wonderful ballads (Something Fine) and rollicking lyrics (Doctor My Eyes) and returning to the stage for explosive version of “Stay” that left me wishing he never had to leave!

I saw Pheobe Snow open up for Jackson Browne during this same time period, only the concert that I saw was at the Tower Theatre not the TLA.
It was a second show that started at 11PM and I also vaguely recall Jackson joking with the crowd about how the real fans had to be at the earlier show.
At any rate, the show was tremendous, as were all of his shows back then.

Ned, Thanks for the correction - yes it was the Tower Theatre! I can’t blame my memory problem on the fact that it was the 70s, since most days I don’t remember where I’ve parked! Was it Robert Palmer at the TLA? I’m glad you remember the JB incident - did you also notice the interruption when someone entered at the back of the theatre shouting some personal rhetoric into the crowd (wasn’t you was it?)Good times !
