Elvis at the Spectrum
by Deb, Deptford, NJ
I went to the Spectrum in 1971 with my Mom to see Elvis. I was in sixth grade. I didn’t want to go but my Mother loved him and said TRUST ME one day you will thank me. We were in the sixth row. It was the day of cubed flash bulbs on your camera…when the lights went down..the flash bulbs started going off at the back of the stadium. It was like a crown induced light show as those flash bulbs followed him all the way down the stage until the white hot spot light hit him and he was standing there arms spead with that red/white and blue eagle studded cape. He was an amazing looking man at that time. His presence just resonated with the history of rock and roll.
The crowd went wild and I was overwhelmed with the excitement of his fans. A gentleman in the row in front of us remarked to my Mother at how much fun I was having. I danced, and screamed during most of the show. I have attended many concerts since then but Mom was right, as Moms usually are, and I do thank her. And I can’t tell you how many times I have used that line…Elvis has LEFT the building.
