Guest Blogger: Most Memorable Bearded Singer Songwriters

For more writing from The Late Greats click here.

The Duke has been known to rock a beard from time to time. More partial to the goatee, soul patch, fu manchu or van dyke – but always with sideburns. In honor of my love of facial hair, here are some bearded singer songwriters, arrange in order of the length of their beards.

Iron & Wine - Naked As We Came Naked As We Came

The Band - Up On Cripple Creek Up On Cripple Creek

Tim Seely - On Film I Play Myself On Film I Play Myself

Ray LaMontagne - Jolene Jolene

Gordon Lightfoot - The Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald The Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald

Cat Stevens - Don’t Be Shy Don’t Be Shy

Peter Elkas - Wall of Fire Wall of Fire

Greg Brown - Eugene Eugene

Kris Kristofferson - Thank You Thank You

I know I missed some. What’s your most memorable bearded singer songwriter? Leave a hullabaloo.

    Paul (AllMusicFan) Says:

One of my favorites is Patterson Hood. I didn’t know DBT when I first heard Killers & Stars-great record-I really related at the time to all of the melancholy. But when I tried to grow a beard, I looked ridiculous-I thought so, anyway.

I’m ashamed to admit it, but I think the only reason I ever bought a Bonnie Prince Billy album was because I was attracted to his beard.
