Live Aid’s Delight
by Len Goldsmith, Haverford, PA
My moment was on July 13, 1985 from Wembley Stadium in London. The daylong Live Aid concert for African hunger relief was held also at Philadelphia’s JFK stadium. This magical day brought together music’s legends & heros on two continents. they played & sang to raise money, gain support for this noble cause & to save lives. To my delight, a three-man Irish band I had never heard of played my favorite set of the day. U2 first played “Sunday Bloody Sunday” then a 12&1/2 minute rendition of “Bad”, including Bono’s electrifying solo jam. It was mesmerizing & orgasmic. Long live music’s dedication to help solve the world’s many problems. Long live XPN. God bless the spirit of Live Aid.
