Dan The List Guy: The iPod Shuffle Part 2

The List Guy is Dan Reed, Music Director for WXPN. Three times a week, Dan gives his spin on Top 10 musical moments in pop culture.

Here we go again… please get yer shuffles on and print your lists so we can all make fun of what’s in your I-Pod, ok? I have no idea how the Boston song got on there… “Hitch A Ride” is a pretty lame tune – I would have much preferred “Overture/Long Time” or at least “Smokin’.” The rest of them, well, pretty solid:

1. Mott the Hoople – Lounge Lizard
2. Spencer Dickinson – Flood (The Awful Truth, The Living End)
3. The Raveonettes – My Boyfriend’s Back
4. Gary Numan - Conversation
5. Nick Lowe – Feel Again
6. Tom Waits – Lord, I’ve Been Changed
7. Talking Heads – Once in a Lifetime
8. The Soft Boys – Unprotected Love
9. Boston – Hitch a Ride
10. Rufus Thomas – Little Sally Walker

I’m game too, since there was nothing embarrasing in my last round. Double or nothing, eh? Here goes…

    1. Yo L Tengo - The Story of Yo La Tango, from “I am not Afraid of you….” etc.
    2. Tori Amos - Sleeps With Butterflies, from The Beekeeper
    3. Equation - Choose Your Moves, from Hazy Daze
    4. Alejandro Escovedo - Looking for Love, from The Boxing Mirror
    5. Richard Thompson - There is Beauty In The Bellow Of The Blast, from 1000 Years of Popular Music
    6. Barenaked Ladies - Home, from Barenaked Ladies are Me
    7. The Black Keys - Give Your Heart Away, from Magic Potion
    8. Victoria Williams - Nature’s Way, from Loose
    9. R.E.M. - Kohoutek, from Fables of the Reconstruction
    10. Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - Babe, You Turn Me On, from The Lyre of Orpheus

Wow. How XPN. Nothing particularly “out there” or different. Nick Cave is a bit on the edge, even for XPN. And Equation is somewhat obscure. But still…

    Sorry.

    Double or nothing again?

Ok, since Dan Reed’s iPod played Boston, I’m not too embarrased by the Queen. I share a playlist with my husband, so some of his picks make the shuffle. And he has to listen to mine all day!

    1. Turning Japanese - The Vapors
    2. Another One Bights the Dust - Queen (I still sing along “another one rides the bus……..”)
    3. PPA - Rodgigo y Gabriella
    4. Sing Sing Sing - Loius Prima
    5. Hammersmith Palais - Clash
    6. So Kind, Stacy - Spinto Band
    7. Ziggy Stardust - Bowie
    8. Lester Left Town - Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers
    9. I’m Still Remembering - Cranberries (yeah, I’m trying to remember - no idea how this got here!)
    10. Rehad - Amy Winehouse with Hot Chip
