Disco Demolition: The Disco Sucks Rally

July 12, 1979 - The Chicago White Sox were scheduled to the play the Detroit Tigers in a doubleheader. Local DJs Steve Dahl and Gary Meier devised a unique anti-disco promotion: Admission was $0.98 and a disco record. That evening fans were supposed to participate in a mock demolition of the records between games but they rioted instead. As a result, the Tiger’s manager refused to field his team for the second game, forcing the White Sox to forfeit. This memorable night is referred to by many as “The Day Disco Died.”
