Remember This: “It’s got a good beat and you can dance to it”
A grab bag of “American Bandstand” footage from around the internet.
The First Decade
Danny & the Juniors - At The Hop
The first generation of “American Bandstand” dancers boppin’ at the hop.
Gene Vincent - Dance the Bop
Chuck Berry - Sweet Little Sixteen
The Sixties
American Breed - Bend Me Shape Me
Clean cut teens give their initial reactions to the new, ultra shaggy looks and psychedelic sounds from their fave rave Brits, including “Strawberry Fields”-era Beatles.
Sometimes genius needs a little time to be fully digested…
Pink Floyd (Syd Barrett era)
Punk, New Wave and Beyond
Blondie - Heart of Glass/One Way or Another
Debbie coyly vamps it up with a bow and arrow. Stay tuned for the interview in the middle. Completely jet-lagged, the band discusses aliens and give a shout out to The Spectrum in Philly. It all looks shockingly contemporary until you catch a glimpse of the disco kids in the audience.

Prince - I Wanna Be Your Lover/interview/Why You Wanna Treat Me So Bad?
A young but far from starstruck Prince gives Dick Clark the (nearly) silent treatment. Bookended by two amazing performances from his debut album.

Public Image Limited - Poptones/Careering
This is perhaps the single strangest “Bandstand” segment readily available on the internet - Public Image Limited’s unruly performance from 1980. As it turns out, it’s one of the single most requested repeats, according to Clark himself. John Lydon could only tolerate the lip-synch for the teenyboppers charade for so long. Marvel at the chaos and deep confusion.
