When Gram Parsons teamed with Emmylou Harris
by Jesse Allegro, Pennsville, NJ
We’ve all no doubt heard of Emmylou Harris. Even if you don’t recognize her by name or face, you’re sure to recognize her voice. She has sang with so many musical talents over the past three decades it’s hard not to have heard her. But it was her joining forces with Gram Parsons back in the 70s (the date escapes me) that was her most memorable moment.
Gram Parsons is to American songwriters as water is to plants. In his short life he built musical bridges that people still cross today. Before his death at the tender age of 26, he teamed with Emmylou for his two solo albums “GP” and “Grievous Angel.” The two voices were indeed angels; one that was to soon be called back unto heaven, the other to remain and carry on.
The significance of the two meeting most will never even realize, but thanks to Emmylou and all the musicians who continue to play his music, he will carry on as well.

My tribute to Gram and Emmylou (well, really more Gram) is up on my myspace, www.myspace.com/threecar, it’s called Burn my Body in the Desert, and it’s about Gram’s rise to fame and death.
