Concert for Bangladesh

by Chris, Stockton, NJ

I was 13 years old, sitting at home on a Sunday morning when my older brother called me to ask if I wanted to go to the concert for Bangladesh that evening. (Apparently he had been unable to get a date). This would be the first concert I attended in my life, and to see and hear George Harrison, Ringo Starr, Eric Clapton, Leon Russell, Billy Preston (other band members such as Klaus Voorman, Jim Kelter, Badfinger, etc), and of course, Bob Dylan, was incredible. And it was also my first exporsure to Ravi Shankar and his music. This was the first benefit concert of its size in history and also marked the first live performance by Dylan since his motorcylce accident. Dylan would subsequently re-start his career from this point, and the concert also raised the profile of Preston and Russell, who, to that point, had been mostly session players, but who would both go on to have much success on their own.

To this day, when I hear the opening notes of Wah Wah, I always rmember this concert.
