First Time I Discovered FM Radio WMMR
by Beth, Mechanicsburg, PA
One of many of my most memorable moments was when I discovered FM radio in 1970 when all the cool kids were talking about MMR and Ed Sciaky. Ed played the best music ever, I was a long time listener to WIBG on the AM dial and was thrilled to finally hear a really cool station.
I was in 10th grade, music both rock and soul were very influential and important in our lives. I recall MMR playing a song when our football team (Ridley High School) won the biggest game against a very big rival, Haverford High School. We were big underdogs and were not supposed to win, well, Ridley went on the beat Haverford by doubling the score. It was the biggest crowd to ever come to one of our games. The song that MMR played after the game was by the Temptations, ‘The Impossible Dream.’ WOW.
MMR was where I discovered my favorite artist Neil Young, and not only that but the best album ever, “After the Gold Rush”. I listened to that album so much I can sing every word of every song on it. It continues to be one of my favorite albums.
I have been a long convert to XPN but will always have a special place in my heart and thoughts for MMR.
