Jimi Hendrix Sacrifices His Guitar at Monterey
Funk pioneer George Clinton said Jimi Hendrix took noise to church. The musician must have had a spiritual relationship with the guitar. At the end of his set at the Monterey International Pop Festival in June of 1967 Hendrix burned his Fender Stratocaster. Afterwards he said “it was like a sacrifice. You sacrifice the things you love. I love my guitar” Following his appearance at Monterey the Jimi Hendrix Experience became one of rock’s most popular acts.
