Sad, but Comforting

Most of us who grew up in the 60s only know the biblical citation of Ecclestiastes 3 from the Byrds song, “Turn, Turn, Turn.” On 21 December 1986, a Sunday morning at 10:00, this song came on the radio (Sleepy Hollow) as my wife and I were driving home on the Schuykill Expressway after our 2-day-old son had passed away at Children’s Hospital. To hear the words, “a time to be born, a time to die” gave us a measure of comfort that things were ok with our son. To this date, some 21 years later, we and our three other children still value and appreciate this song.
