Owsley Becomes Involved in the Production of LSD

October 6, 1966 - LSD becomes illegal yet it becomes the fuel for the psychedelic revolution in both the States and in London. One of the people most responsible for the production of LSD during the ’60s was Owsley, an engineer and scientist who was the soundman for the Grateful Dead. Owsley supplied all the LSD for Ken Kesey and The Merry Pranksters and their Acid Tests, immortalized by Tom Wolfe in his book, “The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test.” Owsley designed the Steal Your Face skull logo and also designed the Dead’s Wall of Sound soundsystem, which they toured with during the ’70s. Nicknamed “Bear,” Owsley currently lives in Australia with his wife where he designs jewelry.
