Elton John Plays the Piano with Everything He’s Got
by Wendy, Telford, PA
When I was in college I occasionally would review a rock concert for our newspaper. I got a press pass and all so I could sit up front. I saw Elton John at Painter’s Mill in Reisterstown, MD in April of 1971. He was amazing. He not only played the piano with such energy, but he started dancing around the piano, stopping intermittantly to hit the keys with either his hands or his feet. He jumped on top of the piano, tap danced on the grand’s lid and proceeded to continue to play the keys with his feet. “Burn Down the Mission” was his final song — the place went nuts and so did he. The title of this entry was the headline I chose for my article, but my editor said it might be misleading. When I asked why, she said, “Did he unbuckle his belt?” I saw her point, but I still wanted to use this head. So here it is.
