Remember This: DJ Kool Herc
Before the Sugarhill Gang rocketed the revolutionary sound of emerging hip hop culture to the mainstream with “Rapper’s Delight”, there was the South Bronx’s Kool Herc in 1971 fusing the dual turntable mixing techniques of Manhattan disco DJs with the soundsystem block parties of his native Jamaica — an art later refined by the likes of Grandmaster Flash and Afrika Bambaata.
