Queen at Live Aid

by Robert Magyar, Glenside, PA

Live Aid was one of my biggest moments in music. At the time, I was a teenager that LOVED Led Zeppelin. I bcame a fan about a year after John Bonham had died so I never got to see them in concert. The highlight of my day was going to be watching Led Zeppelin live for the first time. It was a special day and remember watching all the bands. Even the late addition of the Hooters in Philadelphia to open the show. Phil Collins taking the Concorde from London and all the other artists playing that day. I had been a fan of Queen but was not highly anticipating them compared to others. They came out and just blew away everyone. From that day, I became a huge Queen fan. Music is the soundtrack to your life. You often hear a song and remember what you were doing when you heard that song. For me, my best moment was watching Queen at Live Aid. I did enjoy Led Zeppelin but Queen still is in my memory today.

I agree whole-heartedly! Hands-down Queen’s performance was the best of the day: I remember watching the Live Aid broadcast in my friends basement for hours waiting and waiting for Queen to play (didn’t have cable at my house)–it was exausting but finally they came on and stole the show! I will never forget that day–and their performance!
