Live Aid and 8
by Eric D, Wilmington, DE
The title tells you I am no longer 20… But music has been shaping my life since I bought my first 45 - (Glen Campbell - Rhinestone Cowbow - oops) but having had the fortune of growing up in the Philadelphia area my whole life I’ve been exposed to some of the most incredible musical experiences. (Heck from here to NYC and down to Baltimore - we are in musical heave aren’t we) The heat from Live Aid… the fire hoses, Phil Collins, Led Zep, CSNY, Cream, Mick and Tina! My cuz and I scalped tix around 11 in the morning with the last few bucks we had (35 each, a BARGAIN!) . Most of my buds chose to hang outside of the stadium and enjoy the party from the parking lot of JFK, but we had to get in. We experienced a life of RockĀ ’n’ roll in one day. I knew this was nirvana for that time… and it was. Then came Live 8. I called my cuz, but he’s in SC now and couldn’t make it - so it was up to me to do what few had the chance to do - see the sequel after living in the first. Live 8 was different, it was new, fresh and the music was incredible… but the heat - somethings never change! My sis came this time so it was even more memorable to share this one with someone I care so much about! I have to say that a few bands blew me away - LInkin Park and the black eyed peas! But the one guy - can’t remember his name , but he was a country singer I think - that blew me away the most just went out toward the end of the show and pulled off a Springsteen like performance. This one was sweet, but as in the movies, nothing can ever surpass the original! Thanks to B Geldoff et al! Eric D
