Phish, New York City, New Years Eve, 1995

by Alicia Anderson, Newtown, PA

By this point in my life (20), I had become quite a follower of the band Phish — to the point that I was mail ordering tickets, subscribing to the newsletter “Doniac Schvice” and becoming heavily involved in tape trading. When I got floor seats to their 1995 New Years Eve show at Madison Square Garden, I was absolutely thrilled! I imagined that it would be a great show, but I could not have envisioned the sheer joy, amazement and musicianship I experienced that night. The menagerie of people that usually frequented shows seemed to sparkle a bit brighter against the New York evening, as the energy grew in anticipation of the show. Phish did not disappoint. Their style and playfulness nature reached one of their peaks — over 10 years later I feel so happy and fortunate to have been a part of it. They shared with all of us an amazing, amazing show - truly, it was one of my most memorable music moments!
