The Zombies Fan Club
by Barbara Frankl, Blue Bell, PA
As a teenager during the 60’s, my sister and I watched and listened, with great interest, all the British groups coming to the States. I lived outside of NYC in Connecticut and so had the opportunity to see the Beatles live at their first concert at Carnegie Hall (that’s a whole other memory). As crazy teenagers did at that time, we wanted to be involved with one of the British groups coming over. We tried writing to record companies to become the fan club reps and landed the British group, The Zombies. My sister was the president of the fan club and I was the vice president. Her name was on the back of their first album. We met them several times when they toured the US. It was amazing when the mailman brought boxes and boxes of fan letters to our house. For $0.50, each fan got a bio of the group and an autographed picture. We did all the mailing. I don’t think the record company would let that happen today. Life was so much simpler then. They’re making a comeback and touring again. I would love to know if they still remember their first fan club.
