One dollar concerts

By Anonymous

It was either my first or second year of college (1971 or 1972) and the school decided to sponser some $1.00 concerts. We saw, among others, Bonnie Raitt, Sonny Terry and Brownie Magee, James Taylor and Ike and Tina Turner (all separate concerts, of course). The Turner concert had such a crowd that I remember ascending a set of steps while at a 45 degree angle held up and moving entirely by crowd momentum. These were my first concerts. I became a lifelong Bonnie Raitt and Tina Turner fan as a result. It was around the time of Bonnie Raitt’s “Give it Up” album. Also, I was blown away by the dancing of Tina and the Ike-ettes. I’ve never seen anyone move as fast as those women did when they danced.
