Patti Smith opens for Bob Dylan
by Dorilona, Ardmore, PA
I will never forget the first and only time (to date) I saw Patti Smith (and Bob Dylan). I had always been intrigued by her and had been looking for a chance to catch her in concert. When I saw that Bob Dylan would be coming to the Electric Factory (it was 1994 or 1995), another artist I had been really wanting to see, AND that Patti would be opening for him, I jumped at the chance to go. She was amazing. I will never forget her flowy hair, her long white T-shirt, and, especially, her bare feet. And the way she sang so passionately and really filled the stage with her presence. One of the best moments was when she acknowledged her 80 (?) year old mother who was in the audience and sang a song especially for her. I thought it was so neat that her mom was there and how happy she was that she was there too. Patti just blew the audience away with her performance. And Bob Dylan? Sadly, that was one of the worst musical performances I’ve ever seen — definitely memorable. I can safely say I will never go see him perform again. (OK, maybe never… I hear he’s better now than he was in the mid-90s.)
